Saturday 24 November 2018 / Al-Islah.net - Exclusive

The speech:

His Excellency Secretary General of the Communist Party of China

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are very pleased to be invited to attend and participate in this important conference, which we hope will contribute to strengthening relations between our Arab countries and China, as well as the strengthening of the relationship between the parties in the Arab region and the Chinese Communist Party that has a deep-rooted experience and the huge balance of successes and achievements with regard to the advancement of China, providing the well-being for the Chinese people and the transfer of China to the position of leadership in the economy and development.

Now, this conference coincides with the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up policy followed by China. What has been achieved over the past four decades should be subjected for study in order to be a source of inspiration for all countries in the region. Our countries in the Arab region, which are eager to stability and building development that is deserved by the human, are in dire need to derive experiences of success in the light of a state of stagnation and conflict we live.

Also, this conference, which coincides with the fifth anniversary of the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative that seems to us as if it is a new phase in reform and opening-up track that is followed by China, which makes us wondering how far our countries can benefit from this initiative, which aims at opening the way for the flow of ideas and exchange of experiences before it is a bridge for exchange products and commodities.

Yemen, which overlooks a world trade passage through linking the assurance of the Bab al-Mandab Strait as one of the most important straits through which trade flows, it is now looking to take advantage of this initiative. After more than 62 years of relations between Yemen and China and its rapid development over the last two decades, now - after the Silk Road Initiative is announced - it is ready to move to a new stage in which China, which is the second economic power in the world, to be a real partner in helping Yemen to stabilize and support it so as it to stand on its feet after suffering from this cruel ordeal that has passed and still.

The Silk Road Initiative, which starts from the past and connects the present with the future, brings us back to the "Incense Road", of which Yemen was one of its most important stations. This Road has been for centuries linking East and West and was a vital bridge for the exchange of products from Yemen across the Arabian Peninsula to the North. And through the maritime branch of the Incense Road that was connecting East Africa to India, Ceylon, China and Southeast Asia, as well as through this way, ideas, cultures and beliefs were flowing.

To the extent that the world runs armed conflicts and wars, we hope that China will be a balancing factor through its economic presence, active development participation and as well as it is on top of a revolution of ideas and innovation in the world of industry and technology that makes the world changes around the clock.

We in Yemen are engaged in a difficult and brutal battle to restore the state and achieve peace and stability in the country. We extend our hand to all those who have the ability to contribute to the peace making in Yemen, And because of the coup and the war waged by the Houthi rebel group, the humanitarian situation in Yemen has reached a tragic situation, in which Yemeni people cannot afford it at all.

With our appreciation, in the Yemeni Islah Party, for this kind invitation from the leadership of the Communist Party of China, we affirm our keenness to strengthen the relationship with this pioneering party to benefit from its long experience in party work and communication with the masses, thus contributing to strengthening relations between the two countries and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

I can conclude my speech with the recent sentence of the Chinese President Xi Jinping: "History tells us that no one emerges victorious from the confrontation, whether it takes the form of a cold war, a hot war, or a trade war."

I would like to thank you once again for having me the opportunity to speak to you on this important occasion.
