A report issued by a Yemeni Studies and Research Center revealed today, Sunday, that the Houthi coup militia has used advanced American weapons in its desperate attack on Marib. The report issued by the Abaad Studies and Research Center stated that “the Houthis, who have hidden some modern vehicles since 2015, began using them in the recent battles of Marib, which they resumed in February 2021,” which are mostly weapons that were provided by the United States of America to the regime of former Yemeni President Ali Saleh as support to counter-terrorism forces that were commanded by his relatives.

According to the report, some of these weapons that the Houthis used on the fighting fronts against government forces are among them (tanks: T 72, T 82), (Armor: BM 202, BTR 80), self-propelled cannons, Katyusha missiles, surface-to-surface missiles, and surface-to-air missiles, where some of these missiles have been modified into surface-to-surface missiles, Scud missiles and a defense system, in addition to other types of Iranian missiles.

The report quoted unofficial security sources stating that the Houthi militia used 30 American armored vehicles in its recent war against Marib, including 12 armored vehicles for the counterterrorism program that was stopped, after the fall of Sana'a by the Houthis, and other US armored vehicles registered in the name of the Emirati army fell into the hands of the Houthis during the war.

The information obtained adds that most of these American armored vehicles are of the anti-mine type that is produced by the company (Navistar), and the Houthis have introduced modifications to them in order to intensify their shielding, and some of them were demonstrated in the Al-Sabeen square under the name of BAAS1 armored vehicles.

The report clarified that, since the Houthis launched their attack on Marib in February 2021, they managed to attract three small batches of recruits on the west coast who joined Tariq Saleh camps after the killing of the former president, including important military experts who were among the (elite) forces in order to benefit from them in operating some advanced weapons, including weapons related to counter-terrorism such as advanced thermal field glasses (Night Vision Goggles), some types of smart missiles, decoding armor codes and other security programs.

The report pointed out that the former regime under the leadership of the former president enabled the Houthis to obtain advanced weapons that were provided by the United States of America to the anti-terrorism program, the most important of which is a security system that the Houthis handed over to Iran that contains secret information and technologies that have harmed the Americans and their partners in the anti-terrorism program in the region.

According to an investigative report issued by a committee affiliated with the United Nations in February 2015, the son of the former president, Ahmed Ali Saleh, was accused of transferring an arsenal of weapons from the Republican Guard after his dismissal from the position of commander of the elite unit in 2013 to a special military base in the "Raymat Humayd" camp, which is located in the town of "Sanhan" outside Sanaa that is controlled by the "Saleh family," which became in the hands of the Houthis after his death.

In 2015, American media announced the disappearance of US weapons worth $500 million in Yemen, they appear that they were affiliated with the anti-terrorist forces, including four Raven drones launching by hand and 160 Humvees vehicles, in addition to hand weapons, helicopters and transport aircraft.

Despite the difference in arming that goes in favor of the Houthis, the Houthi militia fails to make any progress in Marib, where it faces violent resistance from the Yemeni army and popular resistance and suffers heavy losses.
