Islah Party and Political Alliances.. The Vision and Experience

Tuesday 14 March 2023 / alislah-ye.net – Exclusive/ By: Abdul Aziz al-Assali

First: The starting point and the objective:

1- The starting point: In its political alliances, the Yemeni Islah Party goes ahead from its deep belief in the theoretical foundations the Party laid down in its political program, as the political program stipulated, literally, the utmost importance of values, principles, and common denominators among all members and segments of society, which would consolidate the spirit of belonging to principles and the national values represented in identity, the state, order, law, and equal citizenship...etc.

2- The objective: Building a society of human and civilized maturity is based on the principle of Quranic acquaintance, in which coexistence, tolerance, and acceptance of difference are included as a practical embodiment of human dignity, freedom and rights, and other manifestations of diversity within the framework of the organizing unity aimed at consolidating peace, stability, and development.

3- The function of political alliances:

The literature and public discourse of the Islah Party emphasize the strategic functional objective of political alliances as a means and an objective at the same time since alliances have civilized fruits and its role in promoting and protecting the values of civilized security, establishing the values of lasting peace, societal peace, stability, and development.

In short, the Islah Party considers political alliances to be one of the most important practical means in building the values of civilized maturity.

Second: Political alliances have models:

1- Alliance with the Baath Party - Iraq faction: This alliance was formed between the Islah Party and the Baath Party in 1992, in order to confront the education law at the time.

According to observers, this law was imported from East Berlin, which belonged to the Soviet Union before its collapse.

It is worth mentioning here that the nationalist and leftist parties were against that alliance, forgetting the common national denominators that existed between them and the Baath Party.

2- Alliance with the General People's Congress Party: This alliance was formed in 1999, in order to achieve two main goals at the same time:

The first goal was to hold direct presidential elections by the people, in which Ali Abdullah Saleh was nominated as President of the Republic. The second goal was to establish a peaceful change in the popular consciousness and seek to get rid of the culture of violence, intolerance, extremism, and the exclusion of others.

3- The Joint Meeting Parties Alliance: Arab and foreign observers were impressed by this political alliance, and internal and external, Arab and international newspapers and news channels talked about it because it was an alliance in which a number of parties were included: The Yemeni Socialist Party, the Nasserite Unionist Organization, the Al-Haq Party, the Union of Popular Forces, and the Baath Party, but this last party withdrew from this alliance after a while.

It is worth mentioning here that this alliance reflected a civilized image, where the Yemeni elite practiced peaceful opposition going ahead from common national denominators.

This alliance embodied civilized awareness and mass alignment, which appeared in practical behavior, representing a very bright image and civilized maturity, and represented a peaceful struggle with all the meanings of the word peace.

It went without saying, this alliance still exists in the Yemeni Governorates that are administered by legitimate authority.

Third: Islah Party and the Arab alliance leadership:

The Islah Party was one of the first Yemeni political parties and forces to welcome the operation of Al-Hazm Storm, by issuing a political statement in which it welcomed that operation led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by His Majesty the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, His Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman. The statement highly appreciated the efforts of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards restoring political legitimacy and that the Kingdom’s leadership is carrying out its religious, moral, and fraternal duty toward the Yemeni people, in order to consolidate security and stability in the Arabian Peninsula, embody common denominators, and protect the security of the two neighboring countries in particular and regional security in general, , as well as the protection of the peoples of the two countries and their lands.

Fourth: Meeting of the leadership of the Islah Party with the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia:

1- Legitimacy Support Alliance: The meeting that brought together the leadership of the Islah Party and the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in late 2017 came in order to strengthen the bonds of the legitimacy support Alliance under the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia because the Islah Party is the strongest arm supporting political legitimacy.

2- Political observers have valued and still value the positions of the Islah Party, which embody the values of national belonging and the preservation of constitutional legitimacy, the republican system, and the popular choice represented in the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, which were confiscated by the coup militia on the fateful September 21, 2014, with the same foreign agenda aimed at bringing chaos and destabilizing security and stability in the two neighboring countries.

It is worth mentioning here that the Islah Party had highly valued and praised the fraternal relationship between the Yemeni leadership and its components - the Legitimacy Support Alliance, and the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, wishing that this alliance between the two countries would continue in the coming decades to enhance regional security.

Fifth: The Political Alliance to Support Yemeni Legitimacy:

1- On the 15th of April 2019, the formation of the National Coalition of Political Forces to support legitimacy was announced, which included 16 parties. The coalition was announced from the headquarters of the Yemeni Parliament in the city of Seiyun - Hadhramawt. After the announcement, it was agreed to choose Dr. Rashad al-Alimi as head of the National Coalition of Political Forces.

2- The political statement issued by the Coalition pointed out that, based on the national parties and forces' sense of their national responsibility in supporting the restoration of legitimacy, ending the coup, rebuilding state institutions, and extending its powers over the entire Yemeni territory, it was agreed on the declaration of the National Coalition of Political Parties and Forces signed by 16 political parties and components and that the Coalition affirms its adherence to the peace option as a principled commitment to the three terms of reference...etc.

3- At that time, observers indicated that the Islah Party made extraordinary efforts in gathering political forces to support legitimacy.

In conclusion, these are the signs of the political alliances of the Islah Party that were mentioned quickly, and they are prominent signs of the peaceful, civilized behavior followed by the Islah Party theoretically, culturally, and behaviorally towards all issues that serve the country and strengthen the bonds of Yemeni cohesion, and what serves non-war and peace in Yemen and the Arabian Peninsula region.
