Yemeni merchants revealed that they were subjected to arbitrary measures by the terrorist Houthi militia to force them to pay half of their money to the militia.

A source in the Chamber of Commerce in Sanaa said, "More than 20 prominent businessmen, most of whom own large commercial companies, are being harassed by the militia, amounting to a demand that half of the profits be transferred to the pockets of militia leaders."

He added, "The militia is no longer satisfied with the periodic taxes it imposes from time to time, rather, the matter came to pressure on companies to link their income to a Houthi spy program and the matter reached the point of sharing the profits of these merchants equally between them and the militia leaders," according to what was reported by the Saudi newspaper Okaz.

He pointed out that the militia is working hard to bankrupt large companies and expel investors and businessmen from Yemen, revealing that some of the major commercial houses in which thousands of Yemenis work have moved their main headquarters abroad and withdraw some of their investments from the country, and this threatens to increase poverty and increase the unemployment rate.

These militia measures come amid increasing crimes of theft, armed robbery, and the spread of gangs under false commercial names to practice deception and plunder the money of citizens in Houthi-controlled areas.
