Yemeni women are a symbol of perseverance, loyalty, and giving, and they are the beacon of struggle and loyalty to society. Women are half of society in terms of custom, and they consider the whole of society in terms of education, defense, and struggle when adversities attack it. Likewise, she is the maker of glories and the builder of generations. In addition to the woman being a sister to the man, she not only makes peace, but also creates life, and she is the homeland that tries to restore its health and stands up for the values of civilization and peace.

Islam cared for women's rights, honored them, and gave them all their rights in accordance with their nature and the nature of the characteristics of their creation. Likewise, Islam has greatly honored women, whether they are wives, sisters, daughters, mothers, or otherwise, and it may have given them more rights than those formulated by human jurisprudence in the form of laws and treaties.

And while the world celebrates International Women’s Day, which falls on the eighth of March every year, we should highlight here the Islahi women, who have suffered and are still suffering, like other Yemeni women, from the scourge of war in the country since the coup carried out by the Houthi militia against the state eight years ago. And this affects them in various fields.

The Yemeni Islah Party paid special attention to women in development, education, freedom, and political participation alongside their male brothers in the various Party formations, as well as supporting all efforts made by women as they are the basis for success in the various fields of life.

Islah Party and Women:

Since its establishment, the Islah Party has been looking at women as partners with men and not as rivals with them, as they are interdependent and share roles with men in this life.

From this standpoint, the Islah Party firmly believes that women are sisters of men, for God has made the two genders equal in value, human dignity, and social status. Also, the Islah Party believes that the injustice that befell the woman is not from Islam at all, but rather because the woman rejected Islam because of the repercussions of ages of decadence and its legacies, according to the Party's statute.

The Islah Party - according to its political system - confirms its rejection of all viewpoints that ignore the physical and psychological specificities of women and attempts to jump over these specificities. The Islah Party views women as partners with men and not as opponents, and strives to enable women to exercise all their political rights and to participate in popular and official public activities.

The Islah Party also emphasizes providing the opportunity for women to assume leadership responsibilities in the various state institutions and agencies (and also in the Party) in accordance with the rules and guidance of Islam, in addition to providing the opportunity for women to work in various sectors and production sites and encouraging them to join professional unions and federations and issuing legislations that guarantee to protect her rights.

Islahi women and political work:

Since its establishment 32 years ago, the Yemeni Islah Party has been seeking to involve women in the exercise of political experience, and it also believes in the necessity of partnership between men and women to face all challenges at various levels. Women's work has gained great importance within the Party, based on the belief in women's political rights and patriotic duty.

According to its various literature and statements, the Islah Party was and still is keen to advocate for women in all their issues, considering that woman is the man’s partner in the struggle and share all roles with him. Therefore, the Islahi woman struggles within a civil political party for the sake of society and the state of citizenship and making the change that all people are looking forward to it.

The party or person who traces the role of Islahi women in political action in Yemen notes the Party's approach during its political career in pushing its female cadres towards participation in various areas of political, national, and humanitarian life in society, bypassing traditions and customs that may have contributed to restricting the freedom granted to the woman is legally, religiously and morally. However, the women's cadres of the Islah Party had honorable and pioneering positions in the various fields available to them.

The positive roles of the Islahi woman have shown her active contribution alongside her male brother in the political, cultural, social, media, educational and intellectual fields through the presence of women in the various bodies of the Yemeni Islah Party in qualifying women to take care of the family and society in a symbiotic and complementary manner.

The Islah party also opened the fields that are closed to women in order for them to move forward while believing in their capabilities and legitimate rights. It also enabled the woman to assume responsibilities and leadership positions within the Party from the lowest organizational unit to the highest. For example, Islah women won seven seats in the Islah Party's Shura Council, in addition to a special Department concerned with women's work throughout the country, according to Amat al-Rahman Aref, a leader in the Islah Party in Aden.

Active participation:

The Yemeni Islah Party also played a prominent and important role in pushing women towards active participation in decision-making within the Party, and it gave women special attention in the organizational structure and affiliation to the Party. The Islahi woman has a role that is no less important than the role of the man, and the Islah Party has realized the great role of women in political life, and therefore it has sought to involve them in the various activities of the Party.

Where the woman actively participated in the organizational aspect, starting from joining the various organizational units, passing her active participation in the various councils, and ending with her representation in the general conferences, and she is thus present in all the activities of the Party, as well as contributing to the various Departments of the Islah Party, including the media, political, and social circles, education, guidance and planning taking into account the advancement of women in all fields.

According to Siham Saeed, a leader in the Islah party in Aden, the Islahi woman - in the social aspect - "there is no one to compete with her, as she has been refined through social work experiences." She pointed out that "the Islahi women contributed strongly to alleviating the suffering of poverty in society and caring for people with special needs according to well-studied visions, systematic plans and institutional work through which many problems were solved and contributed to creating a decent life for many families."

The Islah Party also paid attention to women and made them become teachers, educators, and role models. And they played a prominent role in their struggle, as they are educators, mothers, sisters, and daughters, and they also represent half of society. Thanks to women, human, political, educational, social, cultural, and jihad life is complete, according to the leader of the Islah Party in Hajja, Arwa al-Khazan.

Islahi women and facing the coup:

Since the coup of the Houthi militia against the state, the Islahi woman, along with her sisters and brothers in society, has contributed to resisting the coup, emphasizing the continuation of the struggle and standing firm against all the repercussions of the coup and war. The reformist woman proved to be the support of the popular resistance, as she paid the most precious thing she possessed by sacrificing her father, husband, brother, and son, but also by sacrificing her money in order to defend the homeland.

According to the leader of the Islah Party of Taiz, Hajar al-Hujaili, the struggle of the Islahi woman was nothing but a positive motive to raise morale, ignite energies and restore hope to all through the necessity of standing together in the face of all challenges and difficulties, stressing that the Islahi women were and still are a stronger model in her great sacrifices and dedication to steadfastness in adversity and hardships.

She pointed out that the Islahi women had a major role in all the democratic successes that contributed to building a homeland full of fair citizenship for all and her honorable positions with her brothers and all the honorable people of Yemen, in breaking the thorn of the coup. She had an active and distinguished presence in highlighting social, political, media, and human rights roles that are no less important than the roles played by men in various fields.

Community initiatives and participations:

Hajar al-Hujaili also reviewed the types of Islahi women's struggle during the war, where "she was the initiator in establishing numerous initiatives and institutions through which to search the needs of a society afflicted by crises, was also a reason for alleviating the suffering that affected every home."

One of the most prominent of these social roles is that “the Islahi woman was the mother of the wounded, the sponsor of the orphan, and the custodian of the families of the martyrs. In addition, she opened the doors of goodness to everyone without exception. She documented, monitored, and facilitated for the good people the reasons for sponsoring the families of the martyrs and treating the wounded, leading to their travel abroad in order to receive treatment".

However, the road remains long for Islahi women to obtain more active participation within the Party by advancing their economic side and providing the necessities for a decent life by empowering and supporting them in the labor market, in addition to achieving balance in the laws and regulations of political parties to enable them to work in the field of politics and ensure wider participation in the Party's political and organizational frameworks.

In conclusion, Islahi women have earned a qualitative shift on the internal and external levels, which qualifies them to play deeper and more understanding roles in the future and greater than they are now because Islahi women have become more capable of understanding the reality surrounding them and are able to face the challenges that surround our society from every aspect. Which will reflect positively on its active participation in shaping the features of the new federal Yemen.
