Today, Wednesday, the city of Taiz witnessed mass crowds to demand the lifting of the Houthi siege imposed on the city for eight years, the opening of roads, an end to all aspects of the siege and allowing the transportation of goods and various humanitarian needs without hindrance.

The demonstrators carried banners that reflected crimes committed by the Houthi militia against the city and its residents, the continuation of the siege of the city for the eighth year in a row, and the humanitarian tragedy it had caused.

The mass crowds chanted slogans denouncing the silence of the international community and the defeatist position of the United Nations and its envoys regarding this crime, denouncing the terrorist crimes committed by the Houthi militia against Yemenis.

The statement issued by the march stated, “The people of Taiz Governorate confirm through this solemn mass crowds that opening roads and ending all manifestations of the siege imposed on the Governorate is a collective demand for all the people of Taiz, whether the local authority, political parties and components, civil society institutions or citizens.

It stressed that "ending the siege imposed on Taiz and opening roads does not require the formation of committees, nor time, it is an inexpensive requirement, and it is also the real step that paves the way for comprehensive peace in Yemen, and any other demands than this demand remain worthless maneuvers. It pointed out that everyone is facing a real test of intentions, their seriousness for peace, the immediate and unadjourned opening of all major roads, the operation of water wells, the electricity supply and access to the dump, and before that they are accountable to moral and legal responsibility.

It added, "Although the truce is about to end, the suffering of the people of Taiz Governorate represented in the siege, restricting the movement of the people of the Governorate, as well as the movement of goods and various humanitarian needs are still continuing.

The statement held the international community and the UN envoy responsible for ignoring the file of the siege imposed on Taiz, closing its ports and the main roads linking Taiz with various Governorates, specifically the roads of Taiz - Sana'a, Taiz - Hodeidah and Taiz - Aden.

It stated that the humanitarian file is an indivisible integrated package. At a time when the people of Taiz Governorate welcome the opening of Sanaa airport and the port of Hodeidah, they regret that they are deprived of benefiting from them, warning that the truce ends without opening the roads, which puts the international community in front of a real test regarding the Taiz roads file.

It of the mass crowds called for the speedy opening of all roads and the lifting of the siege in its various manifestations on the people of the city, where they were forced to resort to choosing difficult, long and costly roads financially and humanly. The statement warned against the subjection of the roads file to split and installment.

It stressed that the continued closure of Taiz roads entails burdens, risks, exceptional humanitarian obstacles and depriving the Governorate Directorates under the authority of the Houthi militia from benefiting from health and educational services in the city of Taiz, which is under the authority of the legitimate government, the closure of roads also results in an increase in the prices of commodities in general, especially foodstuffs and medicines.

Also, the statement stressed that the continued siege of the Governorate led to depriving it of water and created environmental risks, the most prominent of which was not allowing waste to be delivered to the dump located in Houthi-controlled areas. It stressed the neutralization of the humanitarian areas of the conflict, allowing water to be pumped from wells under the control of the Houthis and allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, as well as food and medicine without restrictions.

It called for the criminalization of the use of drones, artillery and various types of weapons in the port of Mocha, which represents one of the main outlets for the entry of the most prominent humanitarian and commercial needs to the people of the Governorate, stressing that there is no meaning for the armistice nor for any negotiations that establish a comprehensive and lasting peace without opening all Taiz's roads and crossings that secure the movement of citizens within it and with the other Governorates.

The statement of the mass crowds held the international community and the office of the UN envoy to Yemen responsible for ignoring the humanitarian situation in Taiz, which lasted for seven years, and puts more than four million people in a tragic humanitarian situation. It also held them responsible for ignoring the file of the siege of Taiz and the closure of its ports and the main roads linking Taiz with the various governorates, specifically the roads of Taiz - Sana'a, Taiz - Hodeidah and Taiz - Aden.

It stressed the importance of dealing with Taiz as a national artery for the economy, especially in light of the repercussions of the global food and energy crisis that will cast a shadow on Yemen, in a way that necessitates easing restrictions on trade, the national capital, industrial incubators and roads, stressing that the national capital and trade in the Governorate are the savings of the whole country and that any harm to them is detrimental to the whole of Yemen and disruption of the movement of the economy suffering from the effects of war and embargo.

The statement affirmed the demonstrators' unlimited support for the Presidential Leadership Council headed by Dr. Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi and for the outcomes of the Riyadh Consultations, stressing that they will work to achieve the objectives of the consultations and move their outputs into implementation.

It valued the Presidential Leadership Council's interest in the wounded of the armed and security forces and the directing the government to establish a comprehensive national body to handle the file of the wounded and be subject to the direct supervision of the prime minister.

It also valued the efforts made by the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to unite the Yemeni ranks and unite the word, foremost of which are the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the efforts of the envoy of the United Nations to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, the envoy of the United States of America, Mr. Timothy Lenderking, and the Swedish envoy, Mr. Peter Semneby who are doing for peace in Yemen.

The statement expressed its appreciation for the unilateral initiative issued by Brigadier General Tariq Muhammad Abdullah Saleh, Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, which opened roads unilaterally and without any conditions and restored all bridges and ferries in Hodeidah.
