A new holocaust for humanity and a challenge to its organizations.. The Houthi militia burns African migrants

The heinous crime committed by the Houthi militia in recent days, represented by the burning of African migrants again, was strongly condemned by local humanitarian organizations, while international organizations remain silent about this criminal act.

And the last position condemning the horrific crime, the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned the crimes of the Houthi coup militia and its burning of tents shops and tents of African migrants in the border area of Raqqw in the Saada Governorate, which resulted in the death of 17 people and the injury of others, and the final outcome of the victims is not yet known.

And in a statement, the Network indicated that the militia continues its crimes against unarmed civilians and is working to liquidate all those who refuse to join its terrorist plans and fight in its ranks or work in the field of drug smuggling and cross-border contraband from Yemenis and Africans who use Yemen as a transit area to a number of countries in search of a livelihood.

And the Network considered that this crime is a new addition to the militia’s bloody record, reminding the burning of more than 60 Africans in the prison of the Immigration, Passport and Naturalization Authority in the capital, Sana’a, in March of 2021.

It also referred to the ongoing crimes against unarmed Yemeni civilians, in referring to the Houthis militia's various and heinous crimes that Yemeni citizens are subjected to.

And it called on all international organizations and the United Nations to move quickly to rescue African migrants and civilians, activate international laws and procedures to protect the rights of refugees and impose sanctions on those involved in crimes against unarmed civilians.

A reminder of the most horrific crime:

The new crime brought to mind an even more horrific crime, when a mysterious fire broke out in a detention center run by the Houthi militia in Sana’a, at the beginning of March 2021. And this detention center was crowded with about 900 African migrants, most of them of Ethiopian nationality, according to the International Organization for Migration.

At that time, the International Organization announced hours after the incident that 170 migrants were killed and injured, and said that 90% of them suffer from serious injuries.

And after that incident, the Organization for Migration was unable to update the numbers due to Houthi secrecy and high-security restrictions, then after that, the Organization came again to call for urgent access to provide humanitarian aid to migrants injured by the fire, in addition to the release of all migrants detained in the country and the renewal of the commitment to provide safe and organized transportation options for immigrants.

Impunity equals a new holocaust:

A number of organizations concerned with migrants’ affairs tried to convince the Houthi militia to enable them to inspect the scene of the disaster, but this request was completely rejected, and this is what made these organizations content with sending emergency medical supplies to health facilities.

And it seems that the Houthi militia saw the complicity of international organizations as a sign for committing a new holocaust, namely the recent burning of African migrants in Saada Governorate, more than a year after the first Holocaust, which puts the international organization and human rights organizations to the test and puts them before a difficult test for their humanity and integrity.

Burning and making money from the victims:

As usual, the Houthi militia sought to bury the crime and erase its clear features, and it has been included in the ongoing investigations of human rights violations in Yemen, while the details of the fire incident at the detention center for African immigrants in Sanaa continued to unfold successively, and the number of victims ranged between tens and hundreds, which is an incident that it revealed another tragedy for African immigrants and was met with great denunciations and demands for investigation and accountability.

What is worse is what the Houthi militia did after the incident when it abducted a number of survivors, and the 24-year-old Ethiopian immigrant in Yemen, Ali Mustafa, had no choice but to contact his relatives to obtain a sum of money of five thousand Saudi riyals to present in exchange for his release, as he spoke to the German satellite channel (DW).

And Mustafa explains that he was arrested while he was in the city of Radaa in the central Governorate of Al-Baydha, and then transferred to Sanaa, to spend six months that ended with his release in exchange for a sum of money guaranteed to be paid by relatives in Saudi Arabia as well as in Ethiopia, his birthplace.

Mustafa talks about violations that he and dozens of other migrants suffered and says that they were beaten and tortured with electrocution and iron and that the Houthis asked them to join the ranks of their fighters, but they refused.
