Vice President of the University of Aden for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, the leader of the Yemeni Islah Party in the interim capital of Aden, Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Aqlan, survived today, Thursday, an assassination attempt in the interim capital, Aden.

Local sources said that Dr. Aqlan was shot in the left shoulder after an attempt to assassinate him by unidentified gunmen while he was leaving his house in the Al-Ttiqaniyya neighborhood in the Governorate.

According to the sources, Aqlan is currently undergoing surgery in a city hospital.

The assassination of Aqlan came days after the assassination of the leader of the Yemeni Islah Party in Taiz Governorate, one of the leaders of the popular resistance in it, the fighter Dhyaa al-Haq al-Ahdal, who was targeted by hands of criminality on October 23 in front of his house in the center of Taiz city, and he was shot to die after that.

The crimes of terrorism and assassinations in the interim capital, Aden, have not stopped since its liberation from the terrorist Houthi militia in mid-July 2015. After 43 days of liberating and restoring the city of Aden from the hands of the terrorist Houthi militia, the assassinations began, and their victims included security men, mosque preachers and politicians, the most prominent of these assassinations was the assassination of the former governor of Aden, the martyr Jaafar Saad, which opened the door wide after that to a series of crimes that targeted and deepened in the blood of the people of Aden.

Cadres, activists, and headquarters of the Islah Party in the interim capital of Aden were subjected to an unjust campaign and a malicious scheme aimed at excluding the Islah Party from political life, starting with the assassination attempt on Anasaf Ali Mayo, passing through the burning of the Party’s headquarters, the assassination of its leaders and symbols, and the pursuit of its cadres and activists.

The series of assassinations began with an attempt to assassinate the parliamentarian and the head of the Executive Office of the Yemeni Islah Party in Aden Mr. Anasaf Ali Mayo.

With the continuation of this series, Aden has lost dozens of its best men, according to what was revealed by the American "Buzzfeed" website, which provided testimonies of mercenaries who were brought to Aden to end the lives of imams of mosques, intellectuals and media professionals, and these operations had been documented in the video, and then these operations are attributed later to the ISIS.

And the crimes of terrorism and assassinations, in addition to political leaders, affected leaders of the popular resistance who contributed to the liberation of Aden from the Houthi militia, as well as charitable and relief leaders, community leaders, preachers and imams of mosques, journalists and media professionals, and reached the point of assassinating the leader of the Islah Party in Al-Dhali' Governorate, journalist Zaki Al-Saqladi, at the end of the year 2018.

The methods of terrorism, assassinations and bloody liquidations against political, societal and civil figures in Aden, have varied from car bombs and detonations after the targeted person descended to the killing process through silenced pistols to the abduction and liquidation and other terrorist methods that terrorist gangs used to practice, in light of the inability government and militia control.

And these assassination crimes were preceded by incitement media campaigns against the Islah Party and its cadres on well-known websites and newspapers, as well as campaigns of publications on social media.

And the assassination crimes in Aden remained a mystery over the past years until the documents of the Public Prosecution’s investigations were finally leaked, which revealed dangerous information indicating the name and precise details of the perpetrators of these crimes. Despite this, the trial process did not take place.

The hands of terrorism have affected no less than 200 cases who were physically liquidated, the victims of which were among the best men and cadres of Aden, and all of these incidents were registered against an unknown person.

And the latest most notable of the assassinations in the city was the assassination of the leader of the Aden Reform Party and one of its activists, Bilal Mansour Al-Maisari, on June 30, at a time when justice is still absent.

With the start of the assassinations of Aden, cadres and leaders of the Islah party were among the victims of the grand scheme that targeted Aden and is still targeting it in its educational and enlightening structure and the bulldozing of its influential symbols and cadres.

From time to time, the Yemeni Islah Party in the interim capital, Aden, calls for the formation of an international investigation committee to uncover those involved in the assassination crimes and those behind them and bring them to justice. It has also been calling for two years now to quickly complete the Riyadh Agreement, in a way that guarantees the return of the state and its institutions to carry out their duties in imposing security and protecting the people of Aden.

Last July, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor had warned of the escalation of political assassinations in Aden Governorate.

And the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor considered that the authorities' failure to deal seriously "raises suspicions that officials may have been involved or allowed the assassinations.”
