He pointed out that 81 of the educators killed were school directors and administrators, while the rest of the 1,499 killed were teachers.
Al-Yanaei said that the Yemeni Teachers Syndicate documented 14 deaths of educators who died under torture in the basements of Houthi prisons in the governorates of Sana'a, Hodeidah, Hajjah and Saada.
Al-Yanaei added that 2,642 educators have been exposed to various injuries by the fire of the Houthi militia, some of which have resulted in permanent disabilities, pointing out that the number of administrative educators has been wounded reached 127 cases, while the number of injured teachers reached 2515 cases.
Al-Yanaei explained that the Yemeni Teachers Syndicate has documented 621 cases of arrest of educators who were arrested by the Houthi militia, 36 of whom were forcibly disappeared and that Hodeidah governorate came at the first rank in terms of the number of educators detained with 126 detainees, followed by Dhamar with 113 detainees, then Amanat al-Asimah with 98 detainees.
Al-Yanaei made it clear that 20,142 educators left their homes and schools located in the Houthi-controlled areas and fled to the liberated areas and some of them outside Yemen.
Al-Yanaei made an international call to provide stronger legal protection for Yemeni educators, who have been subjected for six years to murder, torture, abducting and displacement at the hands of the Houthi militia.
He stressed that it is not possible to achieve complete protection of educators and rebuilding education in Yemen except through a regional and global support system.
He also called on the international community to speak out publicly about the Houthi militia attacks committed against educators and intensify its efforts to create safe spaces for learning in Yemen and to work for education to remain of a civil and national character with a curriculum that builds peace and stability for future generations in Yemen.
