Yemen: Mass executions issued by the courts of the Houthi group in Yemen

In a joint statement today, the EURO-MEDITERRANEAN HUMAN RIGHTS MONITOR and the SAM RIGHTS & LIBERTIES said that dozens of recent death sentences have been issued against politicians opposed to the rule of Houthi group on charges of communicating and collaborating with foreign hostile parties, by using the Houthi-controlled penal court in the capital of Yemen Sanaa. And this court considers terrorism and State security issues.

The two organizations pointed out to that the court has issued dozens of death sentences since the beginning of the current armed conflict against opponents, politicians, journalists, military or supporters of the Arab Coalition forces led by the Saudi Arabia Kingdom to support the Yemeni government.

In the same context, the two organizations said that they were following with concern the case of 36 abductees by the Houthi group accused of fabricated cases related to the execution of assassinations or espionage in favor of the Arab Coalition forces. The last trial of these accused took place on April 1, and this was first hearing of the defense lawyers after nearly 22 prosecution sessions in a whole year.

The Observatory of the EURO-MEDITERRANEAN HUMAN RIGHTS MONITOR and the SAM RIGHTS & LIBERTIES demanded the need to pressure on the Houthi group to end politicized sentences and execution decisions against dozens of Yemenis on fabricated charges and politicized legal reasons. The two organizations called upon the Houthi group to respect the rights of individuals under its authority, to release all abductees and forcibly disappeared in its prisons and to stop issuing execution sentences against them.
