Salem al-Saqqaf, head of the executive office of the Yemeni Islah Party in al-Mahra Governorate, affirmed that Yemeni unity was a historical dream and a symbol of a unified national identity. Yemenis placed great hopes on it to build a state based on order and the rule of law, and to overcome the legacy of past conflicts.

He explained that the Houthi militia's coup in 2014 undermined the outcomes of the National Dialogue, plunging the country into a spiral of war and collapse.

In a statement carried by the Saba News Agency, he stressed the necessity of unifying the military forces under the Ministries of Defense and Interior, emphasizing that this step is fundamental to restoring the state and strengthening stability.

Al-Saqqaf pointed out that unity played a pivotal role in promoting political pluralism, guaranteeing freedom of the press and the peaceful transfer of power, in addition to expanding the reach of institutions and services to encompass all governorates.

He believes that unity represents the most important historical shift towards building a modern state and consolidating a comprehensive national identity, despite the challenges, mistakes, and negative practices that accompanied that experience.
