Dr. Abdullah al-Alimi, Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, stated that the humanitarian agreement reached on Thursday in the Jordanian capital, Amman, regarding the release of detainees, represents a significant turning point in humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people. He emphasized that the agreement has restored hope to thousands of families who have long awaited the return of their loved ones.

In a post on the X platform, Dr. al-Alimi indicated that this agreement reflects the values of tolerance and contributes to reuniting families exhausted by years of war. He considered it an achievement that underscores the importance of prioritizing humanitarian values and conveying a message of hope to Yemenis, demonstrating that dialogue and trust-building can contribute to progress towards solutions that end humanitarian tragedies and strengthen stability and peace in Yemen.

Al-Alimi also expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its leading role and tireless efforts in supporting peace and stability initiatives. He commended the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for hosting these consultations and providing all necessary facilities for their success, noting that Amman has always been a platform that inspires hope and a bridge that brings parties closer to solutions.

He specifically thanked the Sultanate of Oman for its role in launching the negotiation process, which began in Muscat on December 11, 2025. He also praised the role of the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and all the technical committees that worked professionally to address this vital humanitarian issue.

Al-Alimi commended the government negotiating team, appreciating their high level of patriotism and their tireless efforts in this humanitarian endeavor. He noted that they worked with dedication and sincerity to achieve this humanitarian goal, placing the suffering of families and the right of detainees and prisoners to freedom above all other considerations.

Al-Alimi expressed his hope that this agreement would mark a serious beginning to resolving the entire issue of detainees, bringing solace to grieving families, and strengthening confidence-building measures that pave the way for lasting peace and comprehensive stability in Yemen.

The Yemeni government's negotiating delegation announced on Thursday that an agreement had been reached for the release of approximately 1,750 detainees and abductees from all sides, including 27 members of the Arab Coalition forces. This agreement followed months of negotiations under UN and regional auspices.

The delegation added that the agreement was reached after continuous rounds of negotiations that began in Muscat, continued in Riyadh, and concluded with 90 days of consultations in Jordan, where both parties signed the lists and the final implementation mechanism. This achievement was described as a major breakthrough on the humanitarian front, which has long posed a significant challenge.

The agreement also included the formation of a joint committee comprising representatives of the family of politician Mohammed Qahtan and the International Committee of the Red Cross to verify his fate before the exchange operations commence. The agreement also included organizing reciprocal visits to prisons and detention centers as part of the second phase of implementing the understandings.
