The French Republic strongly condemned the assassination of Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Shaer, director of Al-Nawras Private Schools in Aden, which occurred last Saturday.
In a statement published on the official Facebook page of the French Embassy in Yemen on Monday, France expressed its support for the measures adopted by the Yemeni security authorities to ensure a comprehensive investigation that will uncover the circumstances of this crime and achieve justice.
The embassy reiterated France's support for the Yemeni government's efforts to strengthen security and stability throughout the country, contributing to peace and development.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning when Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Shaer, a prominent leader in the Yemeni Islah Party in the interim capital, Aden, was assassinated by unidentified gunmen while he was in one of the city's streets.
According to local sources in Aden, the attack targeting the poet occurred as he was heading to Al-Nawras School in the Kabuta area of Al-Mansoura district to attend the fifth Al-Nawras Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Championship in 2026.
The sources explained that the gunmen were in a Hilux pickup truck and intercepted his car at a bend near the school where he worked. They then opened fire on him multiple times, killing him instantly before fleeing. The poet was taken to the hospital but died shortly after arrival.
It is worth noting that Dr. Abdul Rahman al-Shaer was a prominent figure in the field of education and a distinguished leader in the Yemeni Islah Party. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Nawras Private Schools, where he played a significant and distinguished role in developing the educational process and serving the local community.
