Islah, From Da'wa to Politics
الموضوع: كلمة حرة

In 1990, the Islamic movement in Yemen moved from a religious movement that was active in the field of education, preaching and guidance to a civilian political party. This rapid and sudden move represented a major shift in the structure of the movement. A number of emergency intellectual issues on Yemen's political life have not been discussed as the concept of democracy and everything related to it. This was not only the problem of the Yemeni Islah Party, but also the problem of the State and the regime, including the General People's Congress and Yemeni Socialist Party.

From this new space, the Yemeni Islah Party has been established in 13 September 1990. Then the area of Da'wa (Call) was on its way. This is very natural because of the environment in which it worked for years, in addition to the nature of the movement itself. Also, men of Da'wa rapidly changed into politicians.

Islah has begun as a political party that moves forward and guides its own political, cultural and intellectual path by itself. Despite the transition from advocacy to civil and political life has been slow - according to Islahi thinker Muhammad Qahtan - strides of Islah was well thoughtful and slowly opens up to political life, and this is noted by all fair observers, starting from the position from the democracy through arts and from public and private liberties, from the concept of political opposition, from women to the adoption of the concept of civil State - or approaches in this aspect - which clearly reflected its visions in the National Dialogue Conference.

In its unique political career, Islah has been subjected to endless distortions and targeting, sometimes with moral skepticism and sometimes with moral assassinations. The majority of the political forces in the country took a bidding war with it. The former regime has been at the top of the pyramid in targeting Islah, especially in the past two decades, but days proved their fault. Islah is constantly developing and progressing, and this is a reality that no one can deny. At the moment in which the partisan position of parties, components and other personalities decline, they were until recently bidding that the Islah is a traditional party and it does not believe in the values of democracy nor the concepts of a civil State… etc.

It is true that Islah has not reached the needful stage, which its cadres, lovers, supporters and admirers, and observers aspire to, but this will not exempt it from eligibilities of change, where the party awaits the closest opportunity to hold its fifth conference.

During the past years, Islah has made great strides in intellectual, cultural and political modernization within its organizational frameworks and at the level of its cultural and political path. The party has provided mature political experiences at home and abroad levels. If not the events in the country pushed it into the squares of defending the homeland and confronting the coup, would have done a lot, self-employment and continued in modernization more profoundly, which it has become to believe as an inescapable reality.
