Resisting Islah... The mystified political phenomenon

السبت 15 يونيو-حزيران 2019 الساعة 03 مساءً / Al-Islah.net - Exclusive - Muhammad Al-Mayahi

Any fair critic can easily recognize the existence of a situation similar to the enigmatic political phenomenon regarding the subject of "Resisting Islah". It is an old and renewed phenomenon that has historical roots and psychological motives, to the extent that make it a striking phenomenon and differs significantly from all manifestations of political criticism to which any other political force in the context of pluralism and natural difference within the public space.

* Manifestations of the phenomenon

The parties, the forces, the political and social movements involved in public work are many, and it is natural for any of these entities to be subjected to media criticism on a permanently and on many issues, by virtue of the nature of their work, but what is noticeable in Yemeni political life is that the nature of media criticism is not equal in its dealings with all forces that work in public affairs.

When it comes to the behavior of Islah Party -from far or near-, public space turns into a state of horrible frenzy and deliberate confusion between the various issues, and then turns into an extended ceremony of open debate, even if the subject is a disgraceful rumor. On the other hand, we find it different, where the media criticisms for the rest of the forces are normal and confined to the subject of the controversial issue without malicious bifurcations or deliberate indignation, as in their criticisms of everything related to the Yemeni Islah Party.

The issue that was recently triggered in connection with Marib and the story of linking its central bank branch with the bank in Aden is a good indicator of this recurring political phenomenon, where everyone noticed how the issue took another direction represented in targeting the Islah Party in a state of deliberate confusion between issues concerning the state and how they are used in an immediate way to undermine the Islah Party, which is logically unrelated to the case, even if one of the state officials who are party to the case belongs to the Islah Party, it is normal and does not require the insertion of the Islah party.

One of the axioms of politics is that anyone who holds official status in the state is, in this case, a public figure who runs a public interest, and therefore any issue raised about any official figure must be discussed with a logic isolated from his party.

But what happened was otherwise, the manifestations of the phenomenon lie in this sense. At this point, we will try to explain the causes of this phenomenon, its roots and political backgrounds, and the danger posed by the continuing state of demagoguery in resisting the Islah Party media discourse.

* Background of the disagreement

The problem lies in the inability of the opponents of the Islah Party to get rid of the legacy of the disagreement that was built up by the policies of the former regime that were systematic against the party. The former regime was aware that the Islah Party was the biggest obstacle to the project of inheriting the rule that the regime was planning to before the outbreak of the youth revolution that overthrew it.

Based on the regime's fears of the Islah Party's role in countering its plans, the regime has resorted extensively to investing the state's tools, the official media, its network of alliances and public influence to wage an extended campaign to demonize the party and portray it as aiming to control the state, as if the access to power is a charge and is not considered a constitutional right for any party working in democratic ways and tools of natural political competition.

So this was the beginning of the rumor, and so the roots of the invented hatred arose. Although the authority of the former regime was initially disintegrated, its moral legacy remained present and precipitated in the collective conscience of the political and popular forces, both those allied with the General Popular Congress Party or even allied to the Islah Party and oppose to the former regime. In both cases, the mental image that was marketed by the regime with regard to the Islah Party has remained a concern for everyone, and this mental image appears from time to time in a way that confirms that its reactors are still firmly established and prove the inability of the political forces to overcome the legacy of indignation and the logic of revenge that the former regime was able to promote.

* Continuing the adversarial approach with the similarity of purpose

The people who trace the stumbles of the Islah Party realize that it is more committed to the idea of a state and social power, which is the founding base of its national project. Just as the former regime aimed at demonizing the Islah Party in order to prevent it from playing its combative role in fighting the regime's project represented in tampering with the state and destroying Yemenis' dreams of reaching it, the same approach continues today regarding resisting the party.

In the same context, the Marib case is presented as a prominent example of the same game. The opponents of of the Islah Party are resorting to raising the same banner to achieve the same old and renewed goals, and because they cannot declare the direct hostility to the distinctive administrative model in Marib, so they resort to defaming the Islah Party and seize any occasion to broadcast a false idea about its participation in the state and the attempting to confuse them by exaggerating and surrounding them by rumors to be able to hit the idea of the state with the same justification. Of course, they do so under a banner of opposing the Party's behavior, but things often take a direct dimension to targeting the state itself, the problem lies here, where it cost is paid for by all citizens who dream of a state, not just the Islah Party.

* Intentional admixture between the Party and the State

Everyone knows that the political system in the country is based on national consensus and diversified political partnership, but reality proves that the state is not exclusive to one, and its positions are subject to a critical balance in the distribution of the highest political function, so almost all political forces are represented in government positions. Although there are forces that took larger than their real size, this often does not irritate anyone, and it soon becomes a source of confusion when it comes to the existence of a certain position on it's pyramid a figure belonging to the Islah Party, this position is usually exposed to dense lights waiting for the lowest port to confuse it and play on the tendon of exaggeration of the Islah's scarecrow.

In such a situation, the problem of those opposing the Islah Party lies in their inability to differentiate between the figures representing official positions in the state that belonging to the Islah Party and the Islah's figures with partisan positions. The first sample represents the State and must be treated with as a public representative of the public and consider their success as a success that represents everyone rather than permanently distorting them for narrow party reasons, and the other sample represents the party's policy. In this case, it is normal to discuss their policies from a partisan perspective, unlike the first case.

Of course, these leaders are not above the criticism in terms of their political behavior, but exposing them under partisan names is shocking, as well as it devotes a state of political division within government positions, it also creates a fictitious state in the public mind, in which portraying official positions as if they are partisan positions, which impedes the flow of government work, and creates popular psychological barriers towards the leadership of the state.

It also circulates a false picture about the identity of the state and portraying it as belonging to a particular party, while reality says that the participation of this party in the administration of the state is no different from the participation of all other forces, with the difference that the other forces are not subjected to media incitement campaigns against them and there is no pathological syndrome is created towards them such a deliberate noise that is exposed to the leadership of the state leaders belonging to this party, even if they presented the greatest administrative model worth celebrating and praising the rulers of the pyramid of its administrative authority, as the model of Marib and the rumor raised around it, and then its falsity was revealed to remain a miniature modular image of the administration that embodies the Yemeni dream of a state, regime, law and justice long-awaited.
