An abductee hailing from Ibb governorate, central Yemen, died after being exposed to horrific torture in prisons run by Saleh-Houthi militias in Dhamar province about sixty miles from Yemen’s rebel-held capital Sanaa. Local sources have confirmed the death of the kidnapped adult Mohammad Abdullhakeem Ali Hammoud Sharaf al-Din as a result of exposure to systematic torture for months in jails of the coup’s militias. On December 10, 2016, the militias abducted Sharaf al-Din, subjected him to torture in different prisons of Dhamar province and rejected to release him in spite of all efforts made by his family. “Although Houthi militias resorted to blackmailing his family in exchange for his release, they went back on their promise to free him,” added the sources. Sadiq Sharafuddin, uncle of the young abductee said, “My nephew passed away after Saleh-Houthi militias released him and his body showed signs of torture. When they left him he was in a coma and did not come out of it until death,” The 26-year-old guy, Mohammed Sharaf al-Din, hailed from al-Manasilah village belonging to Jiblah district southwest of Ibb city. Saleh-Houthi militias kidnapped three months ago him while he was passing through the city of Dhamar in a journey of searching for work to cope with the harsh living conditions experienced by Yemenis after the coup led by Saleh-Houthi militias. A relative of Sharaf al-Din said that Saleh-Houthi militias abducted him along with two others while they were in their way to the eastern pro-government province Mareb for the purpose of working, and that he remained in prison three months. “The deceased, who was released five days ago while he was in a coma, was tortured and imprisoned for five months. Then, he was transferred from the city of Dhamar to the near province of Ibb where he was taken to al-Manar Hospital due to his deteriorating health,” added the relative. He continued: "Pictures showed signs of torture on his body, and this confirmed that the militias practiced terrorism, abduction and torture in the absence of humanitarian and human rights organizations, which did not lift a finger towards what happened to out relative and others the militias’ prisons located in most provinces under their control." Sharaf al-Din has entered a state clinical death, which forced the militias to take him to a hospital in the city of Dhamar and inform the abductee’s brother where his whereabouts in order to come and receive him; this took place on March 7. The brother went to Dhamar where the abductee had gone into a coma and was in a state of clinical death, and this led him to take him to a hospital in Ibb city where he had been in intensive care for five days before he died as a new victim added to the record of the coup’s militias. Another source close to the kidnapped young man stressed that the victim was suffering from diabetes, and that the militias had prevented him from being treated for five months, as well as tortured him as evidenced by signs of torture on his body. The level of the apparent torture on the body of Sharaf al-Din could not be stood by human beings, and this confirms that these militias deal inhumanely and without compassion with Yemeni citizens in general, stated medical sources. Sharaf al-Din’s case has been the second one. Another case was tortured to death by Saleh-Houthi militias. In August 2016, Adel Abdulmalik al-Hassani hailing from Ibb province died after he was subjected to torture in prisons of the militias, according to the residents of Rabadi area where victims of abduction and physical and psychological torture come from. Rasd for Public and Private Rights and Freedoms, an NGO, said it has documented nine previous cases of shocking torture suffered by abductees coming from the same province in jails of insurrectionists.
