The Department of Information and Culture in the General Secretariat of the Yemeni Islah Party confirmed the unsoundness of what was stated in the reportage broadcast by Sky News Arabia at the end of last January, and held the channel’s management fully responsible for the consequences and damages that would result from that.

In a protest letter sent to the channel’s management, the Department confirmed that the false and misleading information included in the report did not only harm the Islah Party, but rather it incited political action and heavily served the interest of militias and violent groups.

It made it clear that this information creates an environment suitable for extremism and works to encourage a culture of terrorism, as well as similar media campaigns preceded the assassination of leaders in the Islah Party in particular.

It also called on the the management of Sky News Arabia to withdraw the report titled “The Islah Party in Yemen has a deep-rooted relationship with Al-Qaeda” from the channel’s website immediately, refer the team that prepared that report to investigation, and publish Islah’s protest on the channel’s website.

It confirmed that the Islah Party reserves its absolute right to sue the reportage preparation team and the channel that agreed to broadcast it before regional and international courts.

The letter addressed to the channel pointed out that the report lacked professional impartiality, deliberately ignoring the political situation in the country and the nature of the political status of the Yemeni Islah Party and its broad audience presence.

This makes the report closer to the position towards the legitimate, internationally recognized government, in which Islah is represented by its ministerial bloc.

The letter indicated that the report included many inaccuracies regarding the Islah Party, whereas the Islah Party is considered one of the largest civil Yemeni national parties in the political arena, with its wide popular base and its political work in accordance with the Yemeni constitution and the country’s political system.

The Department of Information and Culture considered that the channel’s behavior was the practice of people and entities that practice unreliable and unprofessional media that relies on unbiased sources, who lack credibility and take the path of professionalism with the aim of misleading and confusing public opinion.
