MP Abdul Razzaq al-Hijri, member of the Supreme Authority of the Yemeni Islah Party and head of the parliamentary bloc, met today, Monday, with His Excellency the Ambassador of the friendly Republic of South Korea to our country, Bong Kae-do, and reviewed with him issues of common interest and developments on the national, regional, and international arena.

At the beginning of the meeting, MP al-Hijri congratulated His Excellency Ambassador Bong Kai-do on the occasion of his appointment as ambassador to our country, providing a brief overview of the role of the Yemeni Islah Party in supporting legitimacy and state institutions.

He praised the historical relations between the Republic of Yemen and the friendly Republic of South Korea and the level of cooperation between the two countries. He also praised the humanitarian and relief support provided by South Korea to support the Yemeni people, as well as its political support for Yemeni legitimacy and its institutions.

Al-Hijri affirmed the Yemeni Islah Party’s keenness on peace and its support for all efforts made by brothers and friends to achieve it, foremost of which are the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen. He made it clear the Islah Party’s support for bringing about a just and comprehensive peace in a way that leads to the restoration of the state and its various institutions, ending the Houthi coup against legitimacy, and addressing its effects, most notably the economic situation, difficult living conditions, and other aspects of the suffering resulting from the Iranian-backed Houthi coup.

Al-Hijri renewed the Islah Party’s full support for the right of the Palestinian people and the people of Gaza to resist the Israeli occupation. He renewed the Islah Party’s complete condemnation and absolute rejection of the continuation of the brutal Israeli aggression against Gaza, state terrorism and the war of genocide against the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories in general, with the support of some Western countries.

Al-Hijri expressed his hope that the Korean friends would play a role, through their presence in the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council, in exerting pressure to quickly stop the aggression against Gaza, lift the siege on it, and speed up the entry of aid.

For his part, Ambassador Bong Kae-do stressed the depth of the historical friendship between Yemen and Korea and the Korean government’s continued relief and humanitarian support for Yemen. He explained that South Korean aid exceeded twenty million dollars, in addition to its support amounting to four million dollars for the displaced and humanitarian work through the Red Cross, with continued humanitarian and relief support.

He reiterated South Korea's support for the legitimate Yemeni government and its support for all peace efforts made, especially the efforts of the UN envoy and his office for Yemen, and that they will work to make more efforts to support peace efforts in a way that leads to ending the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The meeting was attended by the Islah Party’s Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Bloc and Head of the Islah Party’s Executive Office in the interim capital, Aden, MP Enssaf Mayo, and a member of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission and Head of the Islah Party’s Foreign Relations Office, Dr. Ibrahim al-Shami, and from the Korean side, the Deputy Korean Mission to Yemen, Jin Ju Kim, and Ibrahim Rajeh, Secretary of the Korean Ambassador.
