Women leaders in Aden: Incitement against (Islah) is targeting civil action and pluralism

Friday 13 July 2018 / Al-Islah Al — Amat Arrahman al-Ghafuri

An ongoing media campaign against partisan action can be easily observed through social media, websites or various media. At the time we see its focus is on Islah, but in fact, it exceeds all political life and pluralism, the principles of democracy and peaceful coexistence, with the emphasis that there is no justification for targeting any political entity or party working within the civil framework in the country.

Fatima Muraisi, chairwoman of the Yemen Women Union (YWU) in Aden, denounced what she described as “some of the negative phenomena we are witnessing nowadays in opposing the discourse of the Islamic movement.”

“Unfortunately, we witness a party attacking another party, and this has caused some of us to suffer and to exploit this phenomenon to promote hatred among members of one society,” she said in her response to a question about the campaign of incitement and the media campaign against Islah.

Pointing out to the history of Aden, which spans for thousands of years with its civilization, coexistence, and multiculturalism, and that throughout this history Aden has been the city of human coexistence and the encouragement of all nationalities, cultures, and religions.

“I am taking this opportunity to say that we must close the gap that we see is expanding day by day and cause a serious social conflict that leads to spreading a culture of hostility and hatred among the people of this city, which different religions coexisted on its land,” she added.

From her side, Basma Ibrahim, a member of the National Dialogue Conference, notes that “These attackers did not start their campaign against Islah in general, and Islah in Aden especially, only after the liberation of Aden and the southern governorates, because they knew that without Islah elements and those who came out with them from all patriots and the honorable ones, there were no fronts and no liberation.”

Adding that many of those who do not have what to do these days only to attack Islah, they claim that they support the coalition in the battle to liberate the homeland from the Houthi militia, while in fact they support Houthi and work hard to damage the legitimacy and the Arab alliance through what they portray as a disagreement with Islah and the legitimacy.

Whereas the member of the Women's Department in the Islah Party in Aden denounces any campaigns against any party in any part of the country, she also denounces these campaigns in particular in Aden, which is the city of love, peace, and peaceful coexistence, which embraced everyone and the whole people mixed in it.

“Islah is a party known with its political role. It adopts the interests of the nation and the choices of the people. It stands beside the legitimacy in the battle of the restoration of the state and presented the most wonderful national positions and championships in order to preserve the state and its institutions and the gains of the Yemeni people,” she added.

Stressing that political pluralism in Yemen is one of the most important achievements of the national struggle and that the principles of human rights and the rules of pluralistic political action in Yemen have never been bulldozed in this disgraceful way that we are witnessing today.

She concluded her speech by stressing that Islah “will remain faithful to the children of Aden and the sacrifices they made in the battle of Aden liberation, and all the gains of the national struggle that produced political pluralism in Yemen and in Aden in particular.”

“Aden was known for pluralism, not only at the political level but also at the social and cultural levels, therefore, Aden was a role model for peaceful coexistence and the application of law and order. Also, the level of awareness among the citizen in general and the educated elite, in particular, was high as a result of the outputs of education and rich diversity, which gave a high level of excellence in dealing with cultural and scientific bases,” said the lawyer and activist Huda al-Sarari.

She continues her speech by saying “The imposition of the prestige of the state and the application of laws helped to respect the freedom of opinion and expression and public freedoms and non-infringement of others, and this is the origin in the application of diversity at different levels and different religions, sects, views, and races.”

And the chairwoman of the institution of DFRF says that “Aden is witnessing a mutation that has brought the city back to an unprecedented level of exclusion, marginalization, a reduction in the level of public freedoms, a lack of respect for opinions and freedom of expression, and even attacks on anyone who disagrees or has a different point of view.” The most frightening thing, according to her expression, is to attack political pluralism and strike democracy.”

Stressing that “these ideas are alien ideas to the people of Aden, who are known for the flexibility of dealing and respect for public freedoms and expression and apply a wonderful image of peaceful coexistence, “It is not logic to attack political parties even if we disagree with them or prohibit freedom of opinion and expression simply because of differences.”

She concluded by stressing that “these exclusionary ideas emerged only after the recent war on Aden as a result of the alien ideas of some who managed the affairs of the governorate and the emergence of leaders and people who exercise the deliberated exclusion of the sons of Aden who reject these practices in all its forms.”

The lawyer and activist in the civil society, Ihsan Obaid, emphasizes the history of civilized Aden and the civil and peaceful character of this city.

Considering the media campaigns aimed at Islah and said that “the political attractions and the adaptation of regional tendencies and the culture of (Suicide‎) and ignore the city of Aden and its history and what we have to offer today and tomorrow for it and for generations... All these ignored by political elites, so, the conflict emerged clearly to seize power and narrow interests, so everyone is attacking everyone and campaignings against each other.”

“This is without any doubt part of the distortion of this city, which is, unfortunately, a sign of distorted conscious and thinking of those abusers.”
